Frequently Asked Questions QUESTION How do you differentiate your business from organizations that gather and offer information along the same lines? What do you recommend for people seriously considering graduate work and additional certifications?
ANSWER I have been committed for the past ten years to create the most comprehensive database for mental-health professionals. Through feedback from colleagues and students, I have identified the core components for the databases. The Area of Study database is the most comprehensive listing of delineated areas within the mental-health field. I know the specialized areas and have developed the database around my actual knowledge of this field.
Licensure and Certification issues are unique to this field. It is easy to gather information on the standard state programs, but to go beyond that and identify the less known credentialling areas only comes out of an awareness on the information needs of the people in this field.
Basically, then, I have been invested as a practitioner and administrator in the mental-health field (very broadly defined), and I have listened to the needs of my colleagues. This personal investment to
create a unique service is quite different than the "gathering" of information.
QUESTION How are you keeping up-to-date on career trends? Where can they get the best information and statistics?
ANSWER I keep up with career trends by daily activity in my field. As a nationally recognized Vocational Expert (ABVE), I must continue my studies to maintain this valuable certification. I'm often called into court as a Vocational Expert, which means I must be current with career trends and statistics. Finally, I belong to five professional organizations which offer a wealth of career information.
QUESTION What do you see in the next five to ten years in terms of obtaining graduate degrees and credentials? Will the Internet make a significant difference in schooling/training itself?
ANSWER The Internet will redefine the way education is offered. At the graduate level, many students are working while they are pursuing their studies. The Internet will start to present more opportunities to learn online and will offer a plethora of distance learning experiences.
